ALABAMA STATE REPRESENTATIVE MARY SUE MCCLURKIN NAMED CHAIR OF NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN STATE LEGISLATORS

Washington , DC – February 17, 2009 – On January 2, 2009, Alabama State Representative Mary Sue McClurkin ( R-Shelby County ) was sworn in as Chair of Women In Government's Board of Directors at the 15 th Annual State Directors' Conference held in St. Petersburg , Florida . This national 501(c)(3), non-profit, bi-partisan organization of women state legislators provides leadership opportunities, networking, expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex public policy issues, is led by a Board of Directors comprised of women state legislators from across the country.

“I have been involved with Women In Government since my first election in 1998 because of their terrific work on public policy and because of the likeminded legislators from all around the country,” said Rep. McClurkin. “I am thrilled with the opportunity to serve as Chair for Women In Government and greatly look forward to all we can achieve in the future.”

Rep. McClurkin will serve as chair for one year, and will help to identify pressing public policy topics for the organization's policy agenda, while working to increase membership and support for Women In Government.

“Women In Government is proud to have Representative McClurkin as our new Board Chair. She will be able to bring her impressive leadership skills to help guide the organization through a period of growth. We look forward to a great year under her leadership,” said Mary Beatty, President of Women In Government.
