Representative Mary Sue McClurkin was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives for the first time in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002 and 2006. She was born on February 14, 1947, and received a B.S. from Huntingdon College and an M.A. from Auburn University. Mary Sue and her husband Van have three sons (Burt, Ben and Daniel) and three grandsons (Luke, Benjamin, and David).

Representative McClurkin is the owner of McClurkin Enterprises, and is a member of the Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Representative McClurkin also served as a past member of the Board of Trustees for The Baptist Health System. She is an elected member of the Alabama Republican Party Executive Committee as well as the Shelby County Republican Executive Committee. She has also served as past Chairman for the Red Cross of Shelby County, past Chairman of the Shelby County Economic Development Council, and is a former member of the Board of Directors for the YMCA and Briarwood Christian School.Legislative & Civic Highlights
